Let me come right out and say it. I want daylight saving time to be abolished one way or another. And I’m not the only one. My voice is adding to the growing chorus of folks who increasingly call out for the clocks to quit being flip-flopped back and forth every year.

It really seems like each time we must “Spring forward” and “Fall back,” I hear and read about more and more people complaining, ranting, or protesting against this practice. Makes me think that it will inevitably come to a permanent end.

There is even a petition online calling for an end to it.

People have different reasons, but it seems to come down to two basic things: the pros, if there really are any, do not outweigh the cons, and daylight saving time just seems completely unnecessary otherwise.

I say let Standard Time be the only standard and leave it alone. But honestly, I’d be just fine with picking either standard or daylight saving time; either Spring forward or Fall back, and then leave it alone. No more changing the clocks!

In just a few days, we will once again set the clocks back by one hour. This seems like a nice deal: we get to sleep in an extra hour!

But it comes at a cost. The sun will now “set one hour earlier.” This time of year where I live in the Northern Hemisphere near West Texas, that means it will be dusk at 5:30pm and dark by 6pm! Why make it that dark that early!?

Like I mentioned, there are pros and cons and many websites explaining the whole thing. One I found to be helpful is here at Time and Date.com. Go check it out.

So tell me, what’s your take? Do you tolerate Daylight Saving Time, or are you one who wants it abolished once and for all? Sound off in the comments below!
