The Block Editor

OK, who else has been a hold-out on WordPress like me? I admit it. I’ve avoided the new Block Editor for over a year! Change is hard. I like writing and editing text, not blocks. But I figure I’d better get with the program. So I’m trying it out. We’ll see how it goes.

  1. I’ve held off, too, Jason. For me, it’s been both not wanting the change right now, as well as not blogging nearly as much as my time has been filled working on my app. I kind of feel like I need to make time for both. I’ll be interested to see how you like it and your thoughts on pros and cons.

    1. Good points, Rob. Time…yeah, I know how that goes. No matter your focus, there are always distractions. Time management is more like Distraction management…
I wouldn’t be surprised if I write a whole post about the block editor. If only I could block out more time…ha! Sorry, I had to 🙂

    1. Ah, a fellow hold-out. I don’t blame ya one bit. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
The thing I like about Classic is the simplicity. It’s mostly a blank canvas and you focus on writing the words. The block editor is more like you’re building a web page… I think I’ll blog about it.

    1. Glad you’re happy with it 🙂
So far I’m liking it, but there seems to be a lot going on. More options than before. I finished my first new homepage using a layout in block editor. I just hope overall my article writing doesn’t get sidetracked.
      Thanks for chiming in!

  2. Two tips that seems to have helped other getting past the initial learning curve:
Enable TopToolbar – 3-dot-menu on top right. This place tool bar to the top of the screen and out of the way writing.
“/” Slash command in new line
A new line is either a new paragraph or you and call the block inserter with a forward slash and select a different block from the paragraph like “/i” let’s.yiu pick the image block “/h” a heading block.

Good luck with your new editor experience!
