Ok, maybe lame, but an idea…some WordPress themes support the “Aside” and “Status” Post Formats. Like Tweets, these are short. What if people just started using them for short blurbs on WP? They appear in the Reader “feed” and can be Liked, Commented and even Reblogged. Instead of #hashtags, just add Tags and/or Categories in the Post.
Not lame at all. I love that idea. So by reader you mean RSS?
I guess the big issue I have is hoping enough people would jump on and actually do it.

Well no not RSS, I was referring to the WordPress Reader for blogs you follow. It’s a lot like a feed. I do use Feedly also to follow sites whether on WordPress or not. But you cannot ‘like’ them etc.

Oh, and I doubt everyone would start blogging again if Twitter died, but I think it could work if they did.

Oh yeah. I forgot about WP Reader. I need to look into that again. I’m more interested in topics to follow instead of “traditional” social media platforms that are more individual-based. You know, the ole “drinking from a fire hose” thing.

Good point there, Brad. I’m gonna ponder that one some more…thanks for that feedback. The follow topics or people idea…

I must say, I’ve been rooting around the WP Reader and I really like it. It’s so easy to search topics. I also like the fact that it’s personally owned blogs and not the fire hose of social. Thanks for bringing this up.
