Rethinking Aside Posts

I started using the Aside post-type back in April. Sometimes my thoughts are idea seeds or just incomplete or random. But they’re too long for 280 character Tweets. My concern with Asides is that they’re low quality and high frequency. That means if you get my posts via email or in the Reader, you might feel spammed. Not good. Then again, this an informal personal blog. So no big deal, right? 🤔

Before this, I thought Asides and Status post-types could be a good alternative to using Twitter. Now I think, maybe; it depends on topic and quality. They should be thoughtful and relevant…

  1. Hmmm, no, not really. I’ve written and read a lot about over-posting, Jason. Many readers said that it could be overwhelming, and some go on to unfollowing the blog that is publishing too many blog posts. I’ve seen some bloggers publish up to six posts within 30 minutes! Once or twice a day is OK, but it seems any more than that and readers can get overwhelmed by it all.

However, at the end of the day, every one of us should go with what feels best for us. If I think somebody is overwhelming me with too much information, I can click the ‘unfollow’ button.
