Jason Journals Relaunches On WordPress

Yes, I’m back! I’ll share about my latest move in the blogosphere. But first, a quick review. I blogged on WordPress, then on Blogger, then on Micro.blog, and now back on WordPress — all in the past nine months! Here’s a break down.

On WordPress

My long-running blog was at Jason Journals on WordPress, starting around 2017. It was my hobby and lasted about five years. I shared my thoughts through hundreds of posts; it was a big investment. Along the way, I found fellow bloggers online, gained readers, and even scored an editorial position at RPGamer (which also runs on WordPress).

Then the WordPress Plan Upheaval of 2022 happened.

It unmoored me. I drifted. My blogging “home” felt ransacked. I looked elsewhere for stability, a blogging platform I could trust. I tried to settle back in, wait things out.

But before long, I jumped ship to Blogger.

On Blogger

I spent around four months enjoying the ol’ blogspot — nostalgia. But then another big change affected me. Many people flocked to Mastodon as Twitter imploded, which got me thinking about microblogging and social media again. That led me to rediscover Micro.blog.

So next, I left the lifeboat of Blogger and dove into the fresh waters of Micro.blog.

On Micro.blog

At first, microblogging was weird since I was so accustomed to only long posts, yet I liked much about Mirco.blog and tried to settle in. But about five months and a blogging slump later, I looked back at WordPress, recalling its features and benefits. And with most of my previous posts right where I left them, migrating back would be easy.

So I decided to re-embrace WordPress.

On WordPress Again

I’ve reinstated Jason Journals, jasonjournals.com, and imported all my long-form posts from Blogger and Micro.blog that were published while adrift in the blogosphere and Fediverse. Some posts still need reformatting and link fixing; I’m also still importing other stuff.

Once again, look for long posts (essays) about computing, gaming, and more. There’ll also be: photos, asides, and quotes.

For me, WordPress is the most ideal overall; it’s still one of the top blogging platforms around. I hope and expect it will stay that way for years to come. And though WordPress seems less about personal blogging and more about website building these days — complexity — it’s a robust and flexible content management system that can handle blogging with ease. I also appreciate that WordPress is open-source and indie web friendly.

So there it is. Sorry for the confusion and my, uh, blog flip-flopping. If only WordPress had never radically altered the deal back in April 2022…if only. But here we are. It is what it is.

I’m happy Jason Journals is back on WordPress; feels like home.

Thank you for reading and following along, dear readers.
