Twitter is officially done. The name has left the building. It’s existence is being scrubbed. While the service and app remain with its core features intact, Elon’s recent rename is jarring. It may mark a major pivot or a subtle turn. Either way, I don’t think it’s change for the better.

Becoming A Guinea Pig Person
Normally I blog about gadgets and games. This one’s a unique topic since…I’m a new owner of a Guinea Pig, “FINALLY!” I’ve wanted one for a few years and almost brought one home last week. The very next day, my wife surprised me when she came home with a baby Guinea Pig!

Twitter Versus Threads
Yesteryear, I was somewhat addicted to Twitter; I deleted it. Then months after Elon Musk’s purchase, I rejoined the network. Now there’s its new clone, Threads, which I also joined. It’s still early, but if I had to use only one of these two social media platforms now, it’d be…

Apple Vision Pro Says No To Better Devices
There’s a thousand “Noes” to every “Yes.” That’s Apple’s approach to choosing designs; it’s about focus. With its recent Vision Pro unveiling, Apple clearly spent many years and dollars to develop the new spatial computing device. But what could Apple have said “Yes” to instead? To make the mixed reality headset become reality, what did the company say “No” to?

Reading Progress Or Lack Thereof
Goodreads emailed me last week, reminding me how far behind I am in this year’s reading challenge. I’m unlikely to catch up, but I should try to read something. I even bought a book last month. Yet the dust on my kindle would make you think I unearthed it from an archeological dig.

Threads Impressions
New social media app, Threads, is off to a quick rise. It’ll likely cross 100 million users by the end of today, just 3 days after launch. If the pace continues, it will surpass the user count of Twitter, around 250 million, in the next week or so. I’m in the top 3.7 million users who joined, which is saying, well not much really. But I have some first impressions.
Also, I want a Threads logo sticker for my laptop; just sayin’.

Threads To Pull Folks From Twitter
This Vergecast has an interesting discussion about Meta’s planned push into decentralized social media. It’s called Instagram Threads. Can and will it actually federate with Mastodon and the like? Will the Metaverse and Fediverse mix like oil and water? Some people don’t want Meta’s Insta in the Fedi. Despite my own past misgivings with Zuckerberg productions, I’m genuinely interested in what the Facebook owner has cooked up.

AirPods Magically Resume Playback
I first said AirPods are about convenience. Then I ditched them, seeking better sound — bass! Now I once again have AirPods in my ears every single day; convenience is better than I thought. So I decided to blog about it. And then I discovered AirPods have a superpower!

Spatial Computing Solves Nothing
Going out on a limb here to say Spatial Computing solves zero things. I’m skeptical of Apple’s new Vision Pro headset. The tech is very impressive, no doubt. But you could argue it’s similar to exploring Mars; we have the capability, but is there really a need? The key use-case of Vision Pro seems to be a fancy new way of computing. What is that, and why do we need that now?
