My First Pika Post

It’s March 1, 2024. And this is my first post on Pika.

I just discovered Pika this week after hearing how WordPress.com (my current blog host) would start selling user data to A.I. companies. I opted out…

After watching the video tutorial about Pika, I got excited. Pika looks incredible!

  • Super simple/minimal/clean
  • Focused on writing
  • Markdown enabled but not required
  • Halloween theme!
  • Auto light/dark mode!
  • Exquisite typography and UI
  • Utterly simple (see “Brutalism”)
  • Did I mention the amazing lack of complexity?
  • The back end and front end (public side) look nearly identical

I could go on, but I think you get the point. So here I am, setting up my Pika blog to see if this can be the new home for Jason Journals.

Pika looks like what I personally need for my personal blog.

Pika looks like what the web needs in 2024 for blogging in general, post social-media silos.

50 free posts should give me generous time to test Pika. Consider my first impression to be somewhat smitten. But let’s circle back in a few weeks, after the honeymoon period, and see what I think once my initial enthusiasm wanes. I’m optimistic.
