From March 1st through June 1st, I’ve blogged on new host, Pika. That’s a whole season, a quarter of a year. So how’s it working out? Splendidly. It’s been long enough for the novelty to wear off, the honeymoon phase to settle into routine. Yet it still feels fresh. After three months, jumping onto my dashboard to draft a post keeps scratching my blogging itch.
I’ve used Pika in the Safari browser on Mac, iPad, and iPhone, and performance is always fast and responsive. The interface and dashboard remain exquisitely simple without feeling rudimentary or bare bones. What some might consider as “missing features” like built-in stats or a comments system, others would call careful omissions.
I have migrated hundreds of posts from my WordPress blog to Pika over the past season with hundreds more to go. I copy/paste from WP to Obsidian, clean up some Markdown and links, then paste that into Pika. There are a few images too. Backdating works well for my archived posts. Else, I just write new posts directly in the web editor.
My WordPress annual plan renewal is June 14th; I’m letting it go for good. It’s been months, and don’t miss it. No more using categories and tags — I’m actually glad they’re gone. It’s less I need to think about and can focus only on what’s on my mind. Less metadata, less overhead, more room for thinking and writing.
If you just want to get your thoughts and words onto the web, Pika is an excellent tool and platform to do just that. Nothing more, nothing less. I gladly continue to pay for Pika Pro as my blog host and home.
