Back on March 1st, I started blogging at Pika. Now that it's September 1st, how's it going after six months? The relatively new blog host is rock solid and has been steadily adding thoughtful additions. I enjoy blogging more than ever and don't miss managing a website.
To get your thoughts into text online, WordPress works but it takes work. I don't miss the Block Editor. Blocks are for building; words are for writing. Pika is nigh effortless, getting out of your way and letting you type your words to publish. It doesn't need to be complicated.
If you want to build a website, use WordPress. If you want to blog, use Pika.
Since joining Pika Pro, the blog service has added handy new features. Some are my faves:
Those last two are especially nice. As of yesterday, I’ve added tags to all my blog posts, going back to 2017! I did it manually, one post at a time, but the overall system is simple yet robust. I opened multiple posts across tabs in quick succession and tagged away. Then I added tag page links to my navbar header — viola! Jason Journals on Pika finally has post topics to filter by.
Thanks to Pika's minimalist elegance, I've been able to focus on writing over the past six months. It's been extra beneficial to me this year due to my new, more demanding job. So when I sit down to blog, I'm glad I don't have to manage images or menus, get sidetracked by optimizing my blog's theme, or navigate a labyrinthian backend. Instead, I just write words and then publish. The only extra step now is adding a tag to the post.
To be clear, my current blogflow is to draft in Apple Notes, edit in Pages, then copy/paste into Pika. Once there, it takes about a minute to tweak things, add the tag, and publish — I mean smash that publish button! Plus by that point, my post is already archived in my personal storage. The point is that Pika is about as simple as can be, which lets me enjoy the blogging process more than before. It reminds me of the simplicity of Blogger.
After six months of reliable hosting on Pika, I'm happy, comfy, and settled in. My bags are unpacked. No more upheaval. No more complexity. No A.I. bot content stealing. Just blogging.
Thanks, Pika! And thanks to the Good Enough team.
