Six Years Of Regular Blogging

Today happens to be a milestone for me. Six years ago today, I restarted my blogging with a main goal: consistent, steady blogging. No more going for a few months and then disappearing for a few months with a defunct blog. Since that recommitment, I’ve stayed the course for six consecutive years.

I’ve blogged, on average I think, at least once a week every month for six straight years. I had blogged before that time, off and on, starting and stopping, across various blogs. But Jason Journals has been the one that stuck.

I made some key changes half a decade ago to ensure regular blogging. They’ve proven vital. For example, I said:

“And finally, a third change: I’m going to try to actually ‘blog’ and not ‘write.’ What do I mean? Writing is more formal, takes more time. Blogging, for me, I want it to be simpler. So I’m gonna try writing more casually, kinda like just the way I talk.”

Casual. This is so important. Yet to this day, I still struggle at times to simply just blog instead of write. I like crafting more essay-like posts sometimes. But I tend to drift too far into that formality. I prefer to blog casually.

Another key point I made:

“Also, what will I be writing (blogging) about? Anything. I had a handful of specific topics or categories before, but I’ve let those go bye-bye. This keeps things simpler for me, which helps me blog.”

Anything. Or let’s say flexible. Letting myself say basically whatever I want about any subject I feel like has been probably the most impactful and crucial change six years ago. Jason Journals is a personal blog after all.

That said, there remains one more super important point that’s fundamental to everything. It underpins my blogging:

“I guess the main goal I have is to blog consistently, so I’m trying to simplify everything to lower the barrier to success.”

Simplify. Keeping all things simple is the most profound thing of all.

So yeah, it’s been six years — wow. Could I go another six? I think so, but as before, let’s see how it goes.
