Xenoblade Chronicles X On Switch

WHOA! Thrilling huge news: Nintendo and Monolith Soft officially announced that the awesome Wii U game, Xenoblade Chronicles X, is porting to the Switch! YASSSSS!!!

I’ve been sitting at my desk literally feeling thrilled and trying to absorb the fact that this game is getting new life on the Switch with enhanced visuals and an additional new gameplay story element. Returning fans, like myself, can relive this unique Xenoblade experience. And many new fans can be made; players who missed XCX on the Wii U will now have a great way to enjoy the game.

For me, this is my golden opportunity to fully experience the game since I never finished it. In fact, I was about one quest away from getting my first Skell! Crazy, yeah!

I still have this game plus my WII U. I think it works, so I could dust it off and pick up where I left off. But instead, I think I’ll wait until March 20, 2025 and restart from the beginning. I want to play the best version of this game on the best console possible. So the forthcoming Definitive Edition is on my MUST-BUY list— I plan to get a physical copy.

I can still hardly believe this port is happening though. I had looked for it online many times. The only news or info I ever found was that the task of porting this particular game would be too much work — replicating the WII U Gamepad’s capabilities and the game’s MMO-style online elements. Plus the sheer scope of the game is no small feat. It would be a MONUMENTAL effort. Yet apparently, MONOLITH SOFT was up to the challenge; THANK YOU! And thank you, Nintendo!

My XCX for Wii U. That Skell!

In 2022, I blogged about my X-perience with XCX and about it porting to the Switch. Check that out for some of my backstory and info about the game itself. One thing I said in that piece that’s relevant to the timing of late March 2025 is this:

“I’d love for Monolith Soft to port XCX to the Switch in its own Definitive Edition, making it more accessible to many players who otherwise might have missed it. Better yet, port the game to a future “Switch Pro” in 4K resolution!”

I have a sneaking suspicion that the Switch 2 will launch in Spring 2025. And with that, I think a 1080p version of XCX will be on Switch and that a 4K high-frame rate version may be co-released alongside and for the Switch 2 as a launch title. Either way, there’s lots of Nintendo goodness to anticipate in 2025.

I can’t wait to play — no, reliveXenoblade Chronicles X in a Definitive Edition on Switch next year. I may have to put down my Kindle for a while; that’s OK. If you have not played this game and like RPGs or open-world games, you should give XCX: DE a try.
