From Apple To Orange Phone

I just bought a refurbished Apple iPhone 12 Pro a few days ago. And then three days after I started using it, my family mega-surprised me for my birthday. They all chipped in for a new smartphone — talk about unexpected. But the part that truly broke my brain about this gift are its three mind-blowing distinctions from any Apple phone: it’s an Android, a flip phone, and it’s orange!

Hello, Moto! Meet my new 2024 razr.

It’s hard to tell you how much this gift blew my mind; it was a triple-whammy. First, I had just bought a phone and thought there was no way I’d be gifted a phone of any kind. Second, it wasn’t just any phone, it’s an Android phone — way outside the Apple walled-garden locking me in. Third, it’s the one phone that had been tempting me with its flip design, Moto brand, and my favorite color.

And there it was, smacking me in the face.

The colorway is called, “Spritz Orange.” I absolutely love it.

I literally stood in a state of semi-stunned disbelief as I looked at the black Moto box in my hands. “Is this for real!?” My mind swirled to process thoughts and feelings like:

• But I just bought an iPhone 12 Pro; wish I had waited…
• Do I keep one and return the other?
• Do I switch to Android?
• How generous and amazing that my family all pitched in for this awesome new phone; I’m so lucky!

Flippin’ cool.

I have many things to say about this smartphone and how I’m fitting it into my daily routine. Uh, yeah, I’m totally keeping it and making it my main phone, at least for now. And yeah, this kind of upends my all-in with Apple stance. With a phone as cool as this, I’m making room for Google too.

I’m still setting up the razr and getting used to Android again — this ain’t my first Moto rodeo. And I’m especially testing the flip-ness of this phone. It is my first smart flip-phone; who knows how long the display(s) will go without cracking or the hinge failing? At least I get to try it out — fun!

The crease is hardly noticeable.

So there it is. I now own a like-new iPhone 12 Pro and a brand new Moto razr 2024. I have one foot in the Apple camp and now the other foot in the Android camp. This is interesting since I both love to switch things up and like to leave well-enough alone, avoiding switching costs.

But the cost of not switching, at least to some degree, would be missing out on this fantastic orange flip phone, ignoring the Android/Google ecosystem, and not fully appreciating this generous gift from my dear family. That’s not happening.

This orange, Android, Moto razr flip phone is happening. I’m flippin’ here for it.
