Hello New Gaming Peripherals

Since getting a big ol’ gaming monitor and gaming laptop, I’ve been in desktop mode far more than laptop mode. But my external keyboard lacked backlighting and my mouse was too low-profile to use for long stretches — the kind where you’re immersed in a time-flying play session. Problems: No backlit keys strained my eyes; the slim mobile mouse cramped my hand. Solutions: photons and ergonomics. Say hello to my first peripherals from Razer.

My trusted preference in peripherals has been Logitech for a long time. I’ve known Logi for quality, reliability, and affordability. I’ve avoided fancy blingy stuff in the past. But you know what? RGB lighting is flippin’ cool!

Thanks to my local Walmart(s), I picked up the Razer Basilisk V3 X Hyperspeed mouse and the Razer Ornata V3 X keyboard on sale and low priced. Seriously, these things are surprisingly affordable: $50 and $35 respectively.

I had no idea that the Razer software for these devices easily enables synchronized RGB lighting — nice! It’s been a real treat, and I think Razer has made me a customer for life.

Besides the backlighting and wallet-friendly pricing, I chose this specific keyboard for its membrane switches, low-profile keys, and quiet sound. So far, typing on it is great. Maybe someday I’ll graduate to deep thwocky mechanical switched keys, but for now I’m comfy with what I’ve got. I can see the keys in the dark room!

I picked the mouse because it was ergonomic, full-sized, budget respecting, RGB Chroma, and it has bonus buttons. I need to figure out how to customize those, tailoring them to specific games (shortcuts).

The icing on the cake is how the RGB Chroma across both devices stays in perfect sync. What a treat! I mainly keep it glowy-orange, but the spectrum cycling is nice and electric-green is kind of mesmerizing.

Of course, this gaming gear also works great for blogging.
